Nonotuck Unites to Discuss Vulnerability
Jan 11, 2023, 09:26 AMWhat is vulnerability, how does it manifest in our lives, and how can we best practice it? The Nonotuck community recently came together to discuss these topics and others as part of our ongoing “Food for Thought” series.
The session, well-attended by the Nonotuck community all over the state, featured discussion inspired by Dr. Brené Brown’s TED Talk, “The Power of Vulnerability.” Many members of the Nonotuck community spoke eloquently about their own personal takes on what vulnerability means in their lives after watching Brown’s talk.
Brown is a University of Houston Professor and six-time New York Times #1 Best-selling author who studies courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and host of the weekly Spotify original podcasts “Unlocking Us” and “Dare to Lead.”
“A core value of ours is based on understanding the importance of authentic non-paid relationships. Historically, people in systems lay bare their most intimate lives through report after report, assessment after assessment. They have little choice of becoming vulnerable before others,” says Nonotuck President/CEO George H. Fleischner. “Therefore, it is our responsibility to help people find and develop those relationships where vulnerability is a choice, a freely given gift to give and likewise to receive.”
