December is Human Rights Month
Throughout December Nonotuck will be honoring National Human Rights Month. This year’s National Human Rights Month Theme relates to ‘Equality’ and Article 1 of the United Declaration of Human Rights: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.
On December 9, 2001, President George Bush Declared Human Rights Week. Since then, it has evolved into a month-long recognition. Nonotuck would like to come together and see how we can do better. This month is a reminder that the United Nations General Assembly codified the basic human rights of every person. It’s also a time to reflect on the way we treat others, and to do what we can in the fight for equality. To get started, here are a few ways we can begin to observe Human Rights Month:
- Attend our Universal Human Rights Presentation
- Re-read the Bill of Rights and research what these freedoms mean to you
- Do some volunteering
- Give back to your community
- Use #NationalHumanRights and #HumanRights to post on social media
- Spread the word about the importance of treating everyone around us with respect, dignity, and kindness.
