Celebrating Black Women with DJ WhyNot in partnership with The Greater Springfield, MA Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
On Feb. 9, Dewey’s will partner with The Greater Springfield, MA Chapter of The Links in celebration of Black women. The Links organization will host a social hour from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will also include free professional headshots from 6 to 7 p.m. The jazz lounge will also serve a specialty cocktail and DJ WhyNot will mix jams from a long list of acclaimed Black female artists. Half of the event’s proceeds will be donated to The Greater Springfield Links for Local Scholarships.

The Grimkes - A Legacy of Slavery in an American Family
Dr. Kerri Greenidge will speak on her new book The Grimkes - A Legacy of Slavery in an American Family as part of the North Andover Celebrates Black History Month 2023 Program series. The Grimkes is a stunning counter narrative of the legendary abolitionist Grimke sisters that finally reclaims the forgotten Black members of their family. The New York Times Book Review listed it on their 100 Notable Books of 2022, Publisher's Weekly named it one of the 10 Best Books of 2022, and the Boston Globe, NPR, Oprah Daily and Smithsonian called it one of the best books of 2022.

A Reckoning in Boston, a documentary film by James Rutenbeck
In recognition of Black History Month, join the Ipswich community for a FREE film screening of the award-winning documentary, A Reckoning in Boston on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 7:00pm in the Ipswich High School Dolan Performing Arts Auditorium, 134 High Street, Ipswich. Doors open at 6:30pm.
This documentary focuses on systemic racial and economic inequalities. A post-film panel discussion will take place, and one of the panel members is featured in the film. Discussion will include how to get involved in building community relationships and find out more about what is happening in Ipswich to address systemic racism and economic disparities.
