Adult Family Care Helps Families Look After Loved Ones
When Brenda’s mother, Margarita, was no longer able to live alone, Nonotuck Resource Associates Inc. was there to help.
With the assistance of Nonotuck’s Adult Family Care program, Brenda was able to bring Margarita to live with her in her home. A caseworker and nurse visit monthly, helping the women navigate insurance issues, checking on Margarita’s needs, and providing invaluable emotional support.
When a family member needs help, it can be hard to know where to turn. Whether the person needing care has an intellectual, developmental or physical disability, a caregiver must juggle financial concerns as well as taking care of everyday needs and coordinating medical care.
Nonotuck’s Adult Family Care program helps family caregivers with services and resources such as nursing, case management, clinical care, and a biweekly stipend. The level of care is tailored to each person in need of support. The program is open to both immediate and extended family members.
It’s the kind of assistance that allows people who need care to stay with their families. They have the support and companionship of their loved ones and the help they need for daily living, but they also benefit from the comfort and stability of a home environment and stronger community connections.
